This is a monumental hotel in a Galician Baroque "Pazo" mansion, a unique building from the 18th century situated in the old city of Lugo.
The "Pazo de Orbán e Sangro" was renovated and inaugurated as a hotel in March 2008. It offers spacious rooms, individually decorated, which enjoy lots of natural light and also views of Burgo Vello.
The establishment is situated in a pedestrian area, a short walk from the Cathedral, the Provincial Museum, the City Hall and the Rúa Nova, the most famous wine streets in all Galicia.
The architect Lucas Ferro Caveiro from Santiago de Compostela was given the project of the Casa de los Sangro in 1730. He started by removing the façade and decorating the building frontage in a Barroque plaque style, typical of the region. During its second renovation, the property became a mansion. The refurbishment was completed in March 2008 and has preserved many of the original elements and materials.
The decorative elements of the rooms are all unique and have been designed to give an individual character to each. They all respect the noble character of this 18th century house.
In the winery restaurant Casa de Auga traditional cooking is fused with new styles. House specialities include the Spanish cured ham boards, carpaccio and salads. It is recommended that you reserve.
Open Tuesday to Sunday: from 13:00 to 16:00 and 20:00 to 00:30
On the ground floor there is a cosy little cafeteria which boasts a large variety of "pinchos" (kebabs), cakes and tarts and a large selection of coffee and wines. It is open every day from 08:30 to 00:00.
